One of the fastest growing states in the country, Georgia is a diverse land with diverse people, filled with history. One of the original colonies, Georgia has seen its way through the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement. Georgia has experienced a growth 40% from the 1990 Census, and is rapidly growing daily.
More than half of the population lives in the capital city, Atlanta, and its metropolitan areas totaling just over 4 million people. Like most of Georgia, Atlanta has a temperate climate and has four distinct seasons, but summertime can be muggy, hot and humid as with most of the south.
Atlanta is well known for its shopping, with 21 malls to choose from, including the largest, the 2.2 million square foot Mall of Georgia. This area is also apart of a new development that will combine both commercial and residential communities. This type of residence/ shopping combination is being implemented all over the United States with great success. Atlanta has an unlimited supply of cultural and recreational activites, like boating, camping, tennis and swimming. Georgians can also cheer on one of the state's professional teams, like the Atlanta Hawks (basketball), Atlanta Falcons (football), or the Atlanta Braves (baseball).
Like much of the south, the educational system is undergoing a vast under haul, implementing new programs and initiatives to Georgia has an amazing university system with 55 universities, both public and private. After the desegregation, blacks and whites each made 50% of the population, though now that number has slipped from being equal. There are a few private colleges like Spelman and Morehouse that are historically black. Thirty-five of the state's universities are public and are spread evenly throughout the state.
With just one visit to Georgia, it is easy to see why some stay and make it their home. A booming economy, low cost of living and beautiful, tepid surroundings, its quite an easy choice to make.
